The risk of doing it yourself

Why answering adverts rarely ends well

Which is why more families in Yerevan now use an agency that does nothing else.

It takes months

Dozens of calls and interviews, and the person is wrong, or gone after the first week.

It is a risk

Without checks you have no idea who you are letting into your home. Petty theft and carelessness do happen.

No guarantee

Spoilt furniture, damaged fabric, a broken machine – with no agreement there is no one to claim against.

No cover

She falls ill or goes away, and you are back where you started.

Duties

What a housemaid takes on

This is more than mopping floors. A trained housemaid keeps the whole house to a standard.

  • Cleaning throughout: rooms, kitchen, bathrooms and the utility rooms
  • Furniture, carpets and floors
  • Changing bed linen and towels
  • Taking the linen to the laundry and checking what comes back
  • Looking after the plants
  • Professional cleaning products matched to each surface, not one bottle for everything
  • Keeping an eye on supplies and order in the store cupboards
How we check a candidate

Five stages before you meet anyone

1

First sift

We read the CV, the work history and references from previous places.

2

Documents

Passport, health certificate and a criminal record certificate.

3

Assessment of character

Reliability, steadiness under pressure and honesty.

4

Interview in person

We tell the candidate what your household expects.

5

Yerevan and the rest of Armenia

Why families in Yerevan are asking for this

The market for household staff in Armenia is growing quickly. Families in Yerevan guard their hours and are ready to hand the housework to somebody trained. Trust decides everything here, because a housemaid is inside your home. That choice should rest on an agency with a reputation to lose, not on an advert.

How the payment works

  • At signing the client pays their 25 %, and the employee’s 25 % in one go.
  • The employee then receives their first month’s salary minus that 25 %.
  • On a replacement the new employee pays us 25 %. For you the replacement is free.
  • A shorter agreement is possible; we discuss the terms case by case.

Questions

What people ask most often

What does a housemaid cost in Yerevan?

The salary depends on the size of the house, the schedule, whether she lives in and what is on the list. Our fee is 50 % of one month’s salary, of which the client pays 25 %. We will give you a salary range at the first consultation, once we know the scale of the work.

How is a housemaid different from a housekeeper?

A housemaid is there for cleanliness and order: the cleaning, the bed linen, furniture and floors, the laundry. A housekeeper takes a wider round of the house – washing and ironing, the shopping, errands, sometimes cooking. We put the boundary in the agreement.

Is there a trial period?

Yes, 5 working days. That is usually long enough to see whether she suits your house and the pace of it.

What if she is ill or away on holiday?

We find a replacement at no extra cost: while the agreement runs there are up to three free replacements. Any change to the schedule we tell you about in advance.

Do you help with the paperwork?

Yes. We handle the legal side of the employment and advise on working matters for the whole term of the agreement.
